We opened our original store on Rt 9 in Shrewsbury on Labor Day Weekend in 2004. Eighteen months later we relocated just a half mile further west.

We added our second store in May of 2014 when we purchased what was Northorough Frame & Photo.

Gastonart added its third location in Brookline, MA in April of 2019 when it assumed operations of David's Custom Framing.

In 2022 Gastonart officially closed the door of its Shrewsbury location and re-opened in Tatnuck Square in Worcester.

John Harry Gaston, MCPF

President

"I started as a part-time framer over thirty years ago.  Since then I have managed numerous frame stores of various sizes and held a senior management position with a national retail framing chain. In recent years I've seen dramatic changes in this business in the areas that can least afford it: Quality, Service, and Selection. I started Gastonart & Frame specifically to provide outstanding customer service, offer unique design solutions, create a quality product, build it all locally and do it at a fair price every day. Since 2004 Gastonart has grown to three locations and assembled a top-notch team of picture framing professionals. In addition to custom picture framing we offer wide format digital giclee printing, art reproduction, photo restoration and much more... With a Master Certified Picture Framer (MCPF) on staff and a combined 100 plus years of art and framing experience, we have earned a reputation for being The People You Can Trust With All Your Art Treasures.

I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a minor in Art History from Framingham State College.  I continually attend educational framing seminars and workshops to stay up to date with latest techniques, products and services.  After serving the last four years as President, I now serve as the Past President of the New England Professional Picture Framers Association. I am also a Director on the PPFA International Board of Directors.

I am the only Master Certified Picture Framer (MCPF) in Massachusetts.  MCPF is a certification issued by the PPFA and is given to those who successfully demonstrate a mastery of conservation and preservation picture framing techniques as well as a solid understanding of the picture framing business. I want you to be confident that when you come to Gastonart & Frame you and your art treasures are receiving the best service and care possible.”

Racheal Mars is a lifelong artist and picture framer from Central MA with over 20 years experience in arts related fields. Racheal began her career in picture framing while earning her Bachelor of Arts in Art at Framingham State University. Later earning a Master of Arts in Visual Art at Anna Maria College. She spent 17 years as an art educator in private and public middle/high schools working primarily with special needs students for the much of her career.

She returned to picture framing full time at Gastonart & Frame in 2016 and began her career as Store Manager in the Northborough location in 2017. As an active artist she has exhibited her artwork in a variety of institutions. As a picture framer, she brings a wealth of knowledge from her artistic experiences and education to help clients find the best framing treatments for their treasured items.

Kris has been working in the fine art and design field for over 40 years. After graduating from college with a degree in fine arts, she has consistently sold her own work to collectors all over the world.

It is her expertise in design and color that enhance her framing designs for all types of art.

Kris hopes  to create a unique piece while working together with the customer which they will love and bring home [or to the office] to be enjoyed for many years to come.

Having been driven to create from an early age,  Ellen spent two years exploring studio art while attending the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth.

After college she sought meaningful work that could keep her immersed in the art and design community while continuing her own journey of creative discovery. She stumbled upon framing and quickly discovered she had a talent and a love for it. Nearly twenty years later, and having worked at several shops around New England, she still finds the process as rewarding as ever.

In her own work, inspiration is around every corner as re-purposed items and found objects are coupled with traditional mediums to form unexpected pairings that serve as her muse on the job as well.

It’s this balance of the inspired and the timeless that Ellen sees in every piece that comes in the door. Sharing this enthusiasm with the customer and getting to know them through the design process remains her favorite part of the job.
